Daniel GREMELLE

Né en 1963 dans le Pas de Calais, Daniel Gremelle commence ses études musicales à 16 ans au conservatoire de Douai où il obtient à l'unanimité une médaille d'or en 1983.
1984 : 1er Prix à l’unanimité avec les félicitations du jury de la ville de Paris
1985 : 1er  Prix d'honneur au concours Bellan.
1987 : 1er Prix à l'unanimité au concours international UFAM de Paris ; 1er Prix à l'unanimité avec les félicitations du jury au Concours des jeunes interprètes de la ville de Dunkerque et Médaille du meilleur soliste.
1988 : 1er Prix du Concours National d’interprétation musicale d'Aix les Bains et 1er  Prix au CNSM de Paris (classe de Daniel Deffayet).
1989 :  premier du Concours International de saxophone de Paris à Radio France et remporte le Grand Prix.   Premier  nommé de la Guilde Française des Artistes Solistes, il est le seul et unique au monde à avoir obtenu cette distinction au saxophone.
1990 : 1er Grand Prix à l'unanimité au concours International « Adolphe Sax ».
Saxophone Solo de la Musique des Gardiens de la Paix depuis 1985 et soliste à l'Orchestre National de l'Opéra de Paris depuis 1990, il est fréquemment et régulièrement sollicité pour jouer dans les orchestres prestigieux tel que : L’ Orchestre National de France, l’Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, l’Ensemble Intercontemporain, l’Orchestre de Paris, l’Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, l’Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse, l’Orchestre de la Scala de Milan, l’Orchestre Philharmonique de Berlin… Ce qui lui a valu de jouer sous la direction de grands chefs d’orchestre comme Pierre Boulez, Myung-Whun Chung, David Robertson, Michel Plasson, Georges Prêtre, Kent Nagano, Semyon Bychkov, Jeffrey Tate, James Conlon, Claudio Abbado, Ulf Schirmer, Seiji Osawa, Lorin Maazel…
Sa carrière de Soliste International lui permet d'être invité dans les plus grandes salles : Japon, Brésil, Chine, Italie, Suisse, Allemagne, Slovaquie, Îles Canaries, Taiwan … et de jouer en soliste avec de nombreux orchestres.
Pédagogue confirmé, il est professeur de saxophone au Conservatoire National de Région de Rueil-Malmaison et directeur de collection aux éditions Billaudot

Il est  le créateur de nombreux concertos pour saxophone et orchestre dont il est le dédicataire :
-création de l’ultime oeuvre de Pierre-Max Dubois : le 2ème concerto pour saxophone avec l'orchestre symphonique de Douai ;
-concerto d'Armando Ghidoni en Italie avec l'orchestre de la Philharmonie de Trento ;
-Sonances de Patrice Sciortino en Slovaquie avec l'orchestre de Kosice ;
-création Française de "Where The Bee Dances " de Michael Nyman salle Gaveau avec l'orchestre Colonne,
-concerto de Michiru Oshima au Japon avec le Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, et avec l’Orchestre de Picardie,
-concerto pour saxophone de Francine Aubin (2004),
-« The Passing Months » de Conrad Cummings (compositeur américain)

Par la qualité particulière de sa sonorité, son impressionnante technique et l’extraordinaire virtuosité qui en découle, ainsi que par la riche musicalité de ses interprétations, il est considéré comme l’un des plus brillants saxophonistes de notre temps. (Georges Gourdet)


Daniel GREMELLE

Daniel Gremelle was born in 1963 in Northern France.
Studies and Competitions
Aged 16, he begins his saxophone studies in the Conservatory of Douai (Northern France)  where he gets a 1st Prize at the unanimity of the jury in 1983, the same for Paris City in 1984. He also gets a 1st Prize at International Music Competitions that occured din France : 1985 (Concours Bellan), 1987 (Concours UFAM) ; the same year, 1st Prize at the unanimity of jury and Best Soloist Medal in Dunkerque, Northern France (Young Artists Competition); 1988: 1st Prize in National Competition of Aix les Bains.
1988 is also a great year: 1st Prize of the Paris National Superior Conservatory (class of professor Daniel Deffayet)
In 1989, he wins the 1st Prize and Great Prize of Paris International Competition at Radio-France. First named by the « Guilde Française des Artistes Solistes », he is the only one in the world to have got this distinction for the saxophone.. Last but not least, he gets the 1st Great Prize at the unanimity of the jury for the International Competition « Adolphe Sax ».
Orchestral chairs
Daniel Gremelle has been the Saxophone Soloist of the Orchestre National de l'Opéra de Paris since 1990 ; he is also often asked to play with prestigious orchestras like : Orchestre National de France, Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, Ensemble Intercontemporain,  Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse, Scala of Milan Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra… He played with reknowed conductors like Pierre Boulez, Myung-Whun Chung, David Robertson, Michel Plasson, Georges Prêtre, Kent Nagano, Semyon Bychkov, Jeffrey Tate, James Conlon, Claudio Abbado, Ulf Schirmer,  Seiji Osawa, Lorin Maazel…
Concertist
His career of international soloist enables him to be invited throughout the world in famous concerts halls : Japan, Brazil, China, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Slovakia, Canary Islands, Korea, Taiwan … and to play as a soloist with numerous orchestras.

Teacher
Teacher of reputation, he is professor of saxophone at the National Conservatory of Rueil-Malmaison near Paris and gives masterclasses abroad. He is director of a saxophone music collection at Billaudot publishers.
Premieres
Daniel Gremelle has premiered numerous saxophone concertos that are dedicated to him.
He notably premiered the last work of Pierre-Max Dubois: the 2nd concerto for saxophone with the Douai Symphony Orchestra ; the concerto of Armando Ghidoni in italy with the Trento Philharmonic Orchestra. He played in Slovakia the Premiere of  « Sonances » of Patrice Sciortino with the orchestra of Kosice. D. Gremelle made the French Premiere of "Where The Bee Dances " of Michael Nyman in Paris salle Gaveau with the Concerts Colonne orcehstra, ;  the concerto of Michiru Oshima in Japan with the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra; and the Concerto for saxophone of Francine Aubin with the “Orchestre de Picardie”.
